RMCAD Do It exhibition

RMCAD or Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, is hosting Do it, a unique exhibition that centers on the notion of interpretation as an artistic principle. Starting with a manual of written, do-it-yourself instructions compiled from internationally renowned artists, the idea is for other artists to carry out the instructions and re-imagine the procedures from their own individual perspectives.

At the conclusion of the exhibition, all work must be destroyed. This reinforces the exhibition’s emphasis on interpretation rather than consumerism. Originated by Swiss curator Hans Ulrich Obrist in the 1990s, Do it has been carried out in cities throughout the world. RMCAD’s do it exhibition will feature a pool of more than 30 regional artists including graphic designers, musicians, museum directors, gallery owners, and several RMCAD alumni.

A LetterPress iPad App, Really?!!

OK, pinch us. Not only is their going to be an app created for LetterPress design and printing, but MATTER has been asked to create a special promotional poster.

We first learned of this project on Kickstarter, one of our favorite online funding platforms for artists, designers, inventors, and explorers. MATTER became a backer and is now an alpha tester for the app.

With the app, the design process is going to be the same as the letterpress process—you place and arrange type and cuts on a press bed, lock the type, ink the type, and print. You will be able to create unlimited designs, with multiple colors, using authentic vintage wood type and art cuts. And you can print your design directly from LetterMpress or save it as an image for import into other applications.

Stay posted for a view of the poster and of course, check the progress of the project on Kickstarter.

R & B’s Mo’ Betta Green MarketPlace

Earlier we mentioned that Rick and Jess had decided to mentor a student who was going through Richard Eldin’s Greater Good Academy; a training program which teaches aspiring entrepreneur’s how to develop a business plan focused on ‘the triple bottom line’; people, planet and profit.

At the start of the class MATTER boldly announced that we had one slot open and that only the truly serious need apply. Beverly Grant came up to us with clarity and focus and announced that she knew that she fit the bill.

We are extremely proud to announce that Bev’s dream of starting a green marketplace in the Five Points neighborhood is already becoming a reality. Bev has secured the RTD parking lot at Welton and 25th and is looking for vendors to sell local goods and green produce. She is on a mission to provide ‘integris’ products to this 5 neighborhood food dessert while all along celebrating culture and healthy living.

he Debut Market is Saturday June 18, 2011. Market hours are 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. We have attached a pdf with a vendor application if you, or anyone you know is interested in being a vendor.

From MATTER’s point of view, Bev, has what it takes to be a success. As we learned first hand, Bev truly inspires those around her to want to get involved.
